A man claimed his 19-year-old son died in order to be reimbursed for his private school tuition. The father was taken into custody. He’s a former policeman.

Invent the death of his own son. A resident of Salon-de-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône) imagined that declaring the death of his 19-year-old son would allow him to obtain reimbursement of school fees in the amount of 900 €. The son is nevertheless alive and well and a student at Game Sup, a private school specializing in teaching video game professions in Lyon.

The father created a fake death certificate which he sent to school. Fortunately, the secretary of the higher education institution has an eye. If the document has an official stamp, a spelling error in the name of the department on the death certificate calls out to him, says Provence. She then calls the civil status service of the town hall of Salon-de-Provence to have confirmation of the death. The civil status tells him that the student is not dead.

A complaint is filed, an investigation is opened. The father, a former municipal police officer, was arrested. Investigators also arrested a 54-year-old municipal officer who allegedly illegally provided him with a town hall stamp. The two men have been taken into custody and deny the facts. The father claims that people are trying to “harm him”.

In addition to a conviction, when they are tried, the two men face a possible removal from the Civil Service.
