The Occitanie Regional Health Agency took stock of the epidemiological situation in the region on Covid-19. The epidemic remains at “a high level” in particular in three departments but the health situation is improving in the whole region.
“Containment is starting to take effect.” This is the good news announced by the director of the Regional Health Agency of Occitanie Pierre Ricordeau, during a press conference, this Friday, November 20. New hospital admissions are down 30% in one week, the incidence rate is on the decline, approaching 150 positive cases per 100,000 population, and the “R”, the virus reproduction rate, is passed below 1.

Nevertheless, “the level of the epidemic remains high” and “we are in the middle of the road”, estimates the director of ARS Occitanie. The positivity rate is around 13% in the region. Three departments are particularly affected: Hautes-Pyrénées with a positivity rate of 19%, Gard and Lozère with a rate of 17%. Conversely, Ariège, Aude and Pyrénées-Oientales fell below the 10% threshold.
210 clusters in nursing homes
However, the situation remains worrying in nursing homes. 210 clusters are underway in accommodation establishments for the elderly. One in four establishments is affected with at least one case in the region. Last week, 165 residents died, in a medico-social establishment or in hospital.
180,000 tests per week
180,000 RT-PCR tests are carried out every week in Occitania compared to 30,000 at the end of June. In total, in our region, 1.6 million tests have been carried out since the end of August. In parallel, 800,000 antigenic tests will be deployed in the region, including 100,000 for National Education staff on a voluntary basis. The tests are also performed with a sample from the nose but the results are obtained after only fifteen minutes.
