Ecuador is home to a total of 183,246 cases of covid-19, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) published in the afternoon of this Wednesday, November 18, 2020. Thus, contagions total 996 during of the last 24 hours, since the report made in the afternoon of Wednesday 18 November.
Meanwhile, there are 13,073 deaths in the context of the pandemic in Ecuador. This represents an increase of 21 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Of this total figure, 8,729 deaths are confirmed by the virus. This refers to the cases that were detected by the PCR tests. On the other hand, 4,344 probable are reported; that is, people who died with images of respiratory failure.
The cities most affected by contagions
The canton with the largest number of positive cases is Quito, with 60,470 in total, which represents 33% of the cases recorded nationwide.
Then there is Guayaquil, which has recorded 16,206 infections since the start of the health emergency. Cuenca is the third city with the most confirmed cases, with 8,887. Then there is Santo Domingo, with 4,626; and Portoviejo, with 3,830.
Contagions, by province
Pichincha is the province with the greatest number of infections, with 65,698. It is followed by Guayas with 23,451. Then there is Manabí with 12,300; Azuay, with 112 86; El Oro, 6,975; Loja, 6,764; Tungurahua, 6,417; Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, 5,439; Imbabura, 5,165; Cotopaxi, 4,897; Esmeraldas, 4,551; Los Ríos, 4,245.
A total of 608,521 samples were taken for PCR testing. Of these, a total of 376,658 cases were dismissed. Of the positive cases, 160,639 patients have successfully recovered. At present, 22,565 discharged patients are registered. There are currently 466 stable hospitalized patients, while 372 hospitalized patients have a poor prognosis.
