Health reports 594 cases of covid-19 in the past 24 hours; infections amount to 183840

Ecuador has recorded 183,840 cases of covid-19 since the start of the pandemic in the country, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) published in the afternoon of this Friday, November 20, 2020. Thus, the infections total 594 in the last 24 hours, since the report last Thursday afternoon, November 19.

Meanwhile, there are 13,095 deaths in the context of the pandemic in Ecuador. This represents an increase of 21 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Of the total figure, 8,750 confirmed deaths from the virus are detached. This refers to the cases that were detected by the PCR tests. In contrast, 4,345 probable are reported; that is, people who died with images of respiratory failure.

The cities most affected by contagions

The canton with the highest number of positive cases is Quito, with 60,760 in total, which represents 33% of the cases recorded nationwide.

Then there is Guayaquil, which has recorded 16,239 infections since the start of the health emergency. Cuenca is the third city with the most confirmed cases, with 8,960. Then there is Santo Domingo, with 4,628; and Portoviejo, with 3,858.

Contagions, by province

Pichincha is the province with the highest number of infections, with 66,031. It is followed by Guayas, with 23,488. Then there is Manabí, with 12,345; Azuay, with 11,326; El Oro, 6,993; Loja, 6,769; Tungurahua, 6,418; Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, 5,441; Imbabura, 5,194; Cotopaxi, 4,913; Esmeraldas, 4,553; Los Ríos, 4,245.

Other data

A total of 611,881 samples were taken for PCR testing. Of these, a total of 379,766 cases were discarded. Of the positive cases, 160,639 patients have successfully recovered. At present, 22,650 patients discharged from the hospital are registered. There are currently 480 stable inpatients, while 362 inpatients have a poor prognosis.
